How to Organize Your Life With Technology!

Image
First things first, let me say that I am writing this post specifically for my lovely friend Katie, who just started her own blog!  Katie - you're going to love this app! :) Katie teachers 3rd grade in the same school as me and she is absolutely fabulous !  I've considered changing grades just to be able to teach with her! lol!  She teaches 3rd grade and I teach Kindergarten... yet we can swap ideas easily and adapt them to our own grades.  And... she's great with technology, so you know she has my heart! LOL!  Be sure to check out her blog and follow her!  Now... for this week's technology tutorial, which I'm sure everyone is going to LOVE... how to organize your life with technology! This option was incredibly popular on the poll! Do you ever have that moment (of course, when you're in the shower or driving) where you say to yourself, "Oh I really have to remember to send that file to so-and-so." or "I need to remember to print that worksheet fo...

Managing Your Computer's Headphones!

Image
For some reason it drives me crazy how sloppy all the cords around the computers are... and the headphones are always the worst.  They get tangled, they fall down and somehow they get bent and crooked!  For a while, I had my students put their headphones over the computer, but that just made the computer screen get greasy and sweaty, so that habit didn't last too long! Well... I finally had an epiphany: jumbo command hooks! I bought the large command hooks off Amazon - a 3 pack for less than $7... not too bad!  They've held up for about a week now and I love them!  You can click the picture below to see which hooks I bought for my classroom... they seem to be the perfect size for our jumbo headphones!

Organizing Your Literacy Manipulatives!

Image
Today was my first day setting up my classroom and I am wiped out!  I'm loving it so far, and I'll be sure to take lots of pictures to post when I'm done!  In the meantime a lovely follower had a great idea... we all have our labels for our math manipulatives... but what about all of our literacy manipulatives? The magnetic letters, letter stamps, flash cards, etc. I decided to create cute literacy manipulative labels that coordinate with my math labels... click the picture below to check them out! Here are the math labels that coordinate with them:

Classroom Jobs!

Image
There are so many possibilities for classroom jobs, and the kids just love them!  I always have one job for each student in my class!  I just added a bunch more jobs to my job chart set, and I added a jungle themed job chart by request! Here's the jungle themed set... I had a blast making the textures for the jungle theme and it really made me think about making a whole jungle classroom theme! But I think I love my Dr. Seuss theme too much! Here are the jobs I use in my classroom (and a few that I don't use since I don't have enough kids for all these jobs!): Line Leader Door Holders Table Helper Easel Eraser Sanitizer Helper Messenger : To bring the attendance folder (and anything else needed) to the office). Lights Helper Smartboard Helper : To turn on/off the smartboard when we use it. Homework Helper : To stamp the homework and hand out homework folders when it's time to pack up. Librarian : To be sure that all of the books are in the right bin and are nice and neat...

Summer Project: Organize Your Classroom Books!

Image
My summer break hasn't quite started yet, but I know for many of you it is in full force!  I love all of the projects on Made It Monday and can't wait to link up once my summer break starts!  In the meantime, I started thinking about some major projects I did in the summers past, one of them was to completely organize my books.  I created a set of matching labels that even my preschoolers/kindergarteners could put away!  These past few nights, I have been working hard on a MAJOR update to my classroom library organization set!  I have added 40 new labels, bring the set up to a whopping 214 labels, all for only $8.  So... if you haven't started yet, why not take this summer to organize your classroom books!  This new updated added the following 40 labels! Authors and Series ·          Goosebumps ·          Animorphs ·          Little ...

Things I Couldn't Live Without!

Image
What an amazing idea for a Linky Party!  There are so many things I couldn't live without in my classroom, but I'll stick with the basics!  Binder Rings These are the best things ever!  I use them to keep tons of things in order... alphabet cards, sight words (in this fun and easy game), math story problems for my problem of the day ... I use these for just about everything!  They really help keep things organized! Magnetic Tape Best invention ever!  I used to have my word wall on a blackboard, so I put magnetic tape on the back of all of the words so I could hang them up easily.  My word wall isn't on a blackboard anymore, but I use magnetic tape to hang things on my easel and my teacher closet.  It's so helpful not to need to search for magnets mid-lesson! Magnetic Printer Paper It's kind of expensive ($2 a sheet), so I use it sparingly, but it's still amazing!   Cardstock Speaking of printer paper, I couldn't live without my cardstock!  Wa...

How to Organize Your Classroom Library (Complete Library Organization Kit!)

Image
If you're in the mood to do some spring cleaning, why not clean up your library by reorganizing it?  I absolutely love the way I organize my classroom books!  Like most teachers, I use labels on my book bins that have pictures, but, I went even further than that!  I put matching labels on each book so that the children put them back in the right bin!  The system is so simple, that even a preschooler can use it! The labels for the bins are 5" x 3.75," which is the perfect size for many book bins, including Lakeshore bins (LC91 & YB10). The labels for the books are easy to print... they line up perfectly on Avery 5160 labels, so all you have to do is peel and stick!  I put the labels on the back cover of my books for two reasons: 1. It's not covering any of the front cover! 2. It's the perfect way to introduce the vocabulary "back of the book," which is on many Kindergarten reading assessments! I am selling this complete library organization system fo...
