Classroom Jobs!

Image
There are so many possibilities for classroom jobs, and the kids just love them!  I always have one job for each student in my class!  I just added a bunch more jobs to my job chart set, and I added a jungle themed job chart by request! Here's the jungle themed set... I had a blast making the textures for the jungle theme and it really made me think about making a whole jungle classroom theme! But I think I love my Dr. Seuss theme too much! Here are the jobs I use in my classroom (and a few that I don't use since I don't have enough kids for all these jobs!): Line Leader Door Holders Table Helper Easel Eraser Sanitizer Helper Messenger : To bring the attendance folder (and anything else needed) to the office). Lights Helper Smartboard Helper : To turn on/off the smartboard when we use it. Homework Helper : To stamp the homework and hand out homework folders when it's time to pack up. Librarian : To be sure that all of the books are in the right bin and are nice and neat...

Math Manipulative Labels!

Image
The thing that I love about my math manipulatives is that the organization system is so simple that my Kindergarteners clean them up all on their own!  When the leprechaun visited us last St. Patrick's Day, my little ones put back all of the manipulatives that he took out perfectly!   I just updated my Math Manipulative set to add a second option for printing (a different font and my cute black border which is a freebie).  I love how the update came out! The set is $2 at TPT and it includes labels for a ton of manipulatives: -Color Tiles -Cuisenaire Rods -Pattern Blocks -Snap Cubes -Color Cubes -Small Color Cubes -Attribute Blocks -Links -Bear Counters -Dice -Jumbo Beads -Unifix Cubes -Attribute Buttons -Two-Color Counters -Money -Cards -Base Ten Blocks -Geosolids -Geoboards -Clocks -Thermometers -Fraction Circles -Fraction Tiles -Rulers -Bug Counters -Dominoes -Color Chips -Pegboards -Small Peg Boards -Balances -Parquetry Blocks If you want me to add any more man...

Image
My summer break hasn't quite started yet, but I know for many of you it is in full force!  I love all of the projects on Made It Monday and can't wait to link up once my summer break starts!  In the meantime, I started thinking about some major projects I did in the summers past, one of them was to completely organize my books.  I created a set of matching labels that even my preschoolers/kindergarteners could put away!  These past few nights, I have been working hard on a MAJOR update to my classroom library organization set!  I have added 40 new labels, bring the set up to a whopping 214 labels, all for only $8.  So... if you haven't started yet, why not take this summer to organize your classroom books!  This new updated added the following 40 labels! Things I Couldn't Live Without!

Image
What an amazing idea for a Linky Party!  There are so many things I couldn't live without in my classroom, but I'll stick with the basics!  Binder Rings These are the best things ever!  I use them to keep tons of things in order... alphabet cards, sight words (in this fun and easy game), math story problems for my problem of the day ... I use these for just about everything!  They really help keep things organized! Magnetic Tape Best invention ever!  I used to have my word wall on a blackboard, so I put magnetic tape on the back of all of the words so I could hang them up easily.  My word wall isn't on a blackboard anymore, but I use magnetic tape to hang things on my easel and my teacher closet.  It's so helpful not to need to search for magnets mid-lesson! Magnetic Printer Paper It's kind of expensive ($2 a sheet), so I use it sparingly, but it's still amazing!   Cardstock Speaking of printer paper, I couldn't live without my cardstock!  Wa...

My New Cat in the Hat Classroom Theme!!!

Image
While some of you are winding down your school year, I still have two months to go... and I decided that a classroom redesign was in order.  I've come across so many cute classroom themes online (jungle, wild west, pirates), but none of them quite worked with what I already had in my classroom. Finally, it hit me... I needed to make give a classroom a Dr. Seuss theme, and since my favorite Seuss book is Cat in the Hat, I used that as my inspiration for my room! Update 5/14/2013: For those of you who have been asking for the set, I have redesigned to abide by all copyright laws and reposted it here .  It looks different from the pictures below but it's still super cute! My first order of business was the "Word Wall" or actually, in my case, the "Word Window."  The background was already the perfect shade of blue, I just needed to add Sally and Nick! Those blue and green blurred out papers at the bottom are the poems from the book " No More Letter of the...

How to Organize Your Classroom Library (Complete Library Organization Kit!)

Image
If you're in the mood to do some spring cleaning, why not clean up your library by reorganizing it?  I absolutely love the way I organize my classroom books!  Like most teachers, I use labels on my book bins that have pictures, but, I went even further than that!  I put matching labels on each book so that the children put them back in the right bin!  The system is so simple, that even a preschooler can use it! The labels for the bins are 5" x 3.75," which is the perfect size for many book bins, including Lakeshore bins (LC91 & YB10). The labels for the books are easy to print... they line up perfectly on Avery 5160 labels, so all you have to do is peel and stick!  I put the labels on the back cover of my books for two reasons: 1. It's not covering any of the front cover! 2. It's the perfect way to introduce the vocabulary "back of the book," which is on many Kindergarten reading assessments! I am selling this complete library organization system fo...

Show Off Your Classroom!

Image
I have to admit, I almost missed Mrs. Fultz's linky party because I really wanted to take some updated photos of my classroom, but seeing that this linky ends tonight, I want to be sure to show off some of my favorite things.. even if these pictures are from September! Yes, I'm starting with this!  I am so lucky to have a play Kitchen in my classroom!  I also have a block area, but I don't have a picture of it!  The kids absolutely love playing here, and it helps develop their socialization skills and their sorting skills (foods need to be put in the right baskets, same with the utensils and cups.  Mostly, it's a great place for the kids to just PLAY! This was probably one of my favorite things that I did (or that my mom did!)  This summer, I read the book Spaces and Places by Debbie Diller and one of the amazing tips in the book is to use curtains to hide all of your things!  I went to the Christmas Tree Shop and bought these purple Kitchen curtains and ...
